It is with sadness that I begin this memorial page for Ms. Tonya Sparkes, teacher at Ukiah High School and Mendocino College. Tonya was my colleague, my friend, my confidant, and the closest thing to a big sister I will ever know.
I was crushed to hear the news this morning -- I felt like I had been kicked square in the chest. At first I didn't believe the news -- I thought it was some sort of sick joke. Then as I watched the faces looking back at me, it finally hit me. Tonya was gone.
I have been debating whether to do a memorial page for Tonya. It seems that nothing I could ever say would be enough, but saying nothing seems worse somehow.
All I can say is that I will miss her very much. I had hoped that I could get my daughter into her class next year. Lost opportunities. Lost talent. Lost love.
